Discovery

Purpose

The discovery clerk is the direct link between the court and the police department and is responsible for transferring reports to the municipal prosecutor and attorneys for the defendant.

The discovery clerk maintains many records and certifications needed to prosecute motor vehicle offenses, as well as all proofs involving officer training and certifications.


Requests

All requests for discovery must be made in writing, with proper identification or letter of representation from the attorney representing the defendant. The discovery clerk's responsibilities are to insure all requested reports are forwarded in a timely and complete manner to all parties involved in an incident.

The discovery office is located in the Records section of the Hopewell Township Police Department. Contact can be made between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at 609-737-3100, option 3.


Fees for Municipal Court Discovery

  • $0.05 per page for letter size
  • $0.07 per page for legal size
  • $5 for mailed accident reports (NJSA 39:4 to 131)
  • $5 for each video or audio tape reproduction
