Youth Police Academy

Overview

This program is open to any Hopewell Valley resident who is presently attending the 7th or 8th grade and is free of charge. Past students have given very positive reviews of the youth police academy.

The Youth Academy is five days long and runs from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day. It is held at the Hopewell Township Police headquarters.

Program Details


During the academy, students will be exposed to numerous aspects of police work and training in areas such as:
  • Arrest, Search and Seizure
  • The Court System
  • Crime Prevention
  • Criminal Investigation
  • Criminal Law
  • Evidence Collection
  • Juvenile Law
  • Patrol Practices
  • Physical Fitness Training
  • Traffic Stops and Motor Vehicle Law
The academy includes several demonstrations and trips including The New Jersey State Police Museum, a fire department and rescue squad demonstration, a ride along with a police officer and a range day which includes fire arms safety and shooting.

Dates

The academy is normally held shortly after the close of school in June, dates for it are normally finalized in January.
