Hopewell Township Committee Extends Property Tax Grace Period to June
1
At a special meeting on May 8, the Hopewell Township Committee
voted unanimously to extend the grace period for second quarter property taxes from
May 11 to June 1. A recent executive order by Governor Phil Murphy
provided local municipalities the right to extend the grace period.
Approximately 24% of a property tax bill goes to pay Mercer County
taxes and 58% goes to the Hopewell Valley Regional School District. The
Township is legally required to pay 100% of the amount due to Mercer County and
the School District, regardless of the amount of taxes collected. Those
payments are due prior to June 1. The Township Committee voted to
extend the grace period after determining that the Township had sufficient
funds on hand to meet obligations as of June 1.
Residents can send tax payments by mail, leave payments at the
drop box at the Township Building, or pay by credit card through the Township’s
website (service fee applies).
