Hello. This is Kevin Kuchinski from the Hopewell Township Committee bringing you this month’s community update.
Work on the 2022 Township Budget continues. On February 28th, we introduced this year’s Capital Budget. We will have a second reading and public hearing on this budget at the Township Committee meeting on March 21st.
By introducing the Capital Budget ahead of the overall budget, we are able to get our roads projects and orders for new equipment out to bid ahead of other towns in New Jersey. This enables us to not only accelerate repair and maintenance work on Township roads, but also saves residents money, as we are able to lock in contractors earlier in the season, when they are less busy.
In other important Township news, BeiGene received approval on their site plan application for 42 acres on the former BMS Campus. BeiGene is a leading global pharmaceutical company and is working on several new compounds to help fight cancer. They will join PTC Therapeutics on the campus and be investing over $500 Million dollars in a new state of the art Clinical R&D Center and highly automated manufacturing facility in Hopewell Township.
We look forward to welcoming BeiGene to our community.
At its March 7th meeting, the Township Committee will be sharing a proclamation in support of Women’s History month.
At that same meeting, Police Director Karmazin will be providing an update on community policing data, as he’s done in the past.
Finally, later in March or early April, we anticipate a second reading and public hearing on retail cannabis, pending review by the Planning Board.
