Beginning on or about Thursday, August 23, 2018 (weather dependant) between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm, Brandon Road West will receive a surface treatment.  The work is anticipated to be completed on or about Thursday, August 30, 2018 (weather dependant). The surface treatment method is a 2 step “Cape Seal” process:

The first step of Cape Sealing involves the application of liquid asphalt that is quickly covered with crushed stone.  This is very similar to the process used for many Hopewell Township roads.  The completed surface is rough, however, this rough surface is only temporary.

The second and final step involves the spreading of a thin layer of liquid asphalt premixed in a specialized truck with sand and fine stone. As this layer hardens, it turns black in color and results in a rough surface resembling sand paper.   As this surface is subjected to traffic and weathering, some of the small surface stones will cast off from the surface and collect along the edge of the road.  This is normal.  This loose stone will be removed by sweeping.  As the surface experiences further traffic and weather over time it will take on a less course appearance.  Cape sealing is considered a maintenance treatment and is intended to seal the existing pavement to prolong its useful service life.  Cape sealing does not improve the ride or smoothness of the roadway.

This work will be performed in a manner that completes one-half of the road at a time. During the work, no on-street parking will be permitted. Curing can take up to 2 hours, weather depending. Please have all lawn irrigation systems shut down between the hours of 7:00 am and 6:30 pm.   Contractor personnel on-site will be available to help direct you during this work.

The road will be open to emergency vehicles, local residents, garbage truck and mail vehicles and buses at all times.  

Working with liquid asphalt is challenging.  Liquid asphalt when wet will stick to shoes, clothing, cars and paws. It is extremely difficult to remove.  Please do not drive, walk or allow pets near any wet material.  There will also be loose stone until the weather process is complete, bicycle riding, walking and running may be challenging.
