Protect the environment and our community with proper prescription drug disposal.
Hopewell Township is a Sustainable Jersey Certified Community. One of the issues we deal with as part of our Sustainable Jersey program is the proper disposal of unused and expired prescription drugs. Traditionally, people were told to flush these drugs, but negative environmental impacts have occurred as a result. In some instances, measurable amounts of all kinds of pharmaceuticals have been found in waterways, some of which supply drinking water to communities. This is dangerous for many reasons, not just environmental.
The State of New Jersey has a program called Project Medicine Drop, developed by the Division of Consumer Affairs. The purpose of Project Medicine Drop is to provide safe and secure places for drug disposal to prevent drug abuse and theft. The Hopewell Township Police Department participates in this program by hosting a permanent drop box in the lobby of the department. It provides a safe, secure, and anonymous place to drop unused and expired pharmaceuticals, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
By providing an easily accessible and secure location for the proper disposal of prescription drugs, Hopewell Township addresses both environmental and societal impacts improper disposal can cause.
The Hopewell Township Police Department is located at 201 Washington Crossing- Pennington Rd in Titusville.
