The Hopewell Township Police Department, in conjunction with the Hopewell Valley Regional School District, will be conducting a pre-planned school safety drill at the Stony Brook Elementary School. This drill will involve a lockdown and a partial evacuation of the building. The students that are evacuated will proceed to the Twin Pines Athletic Fields parking lot located on Pennington Lawrenceville Road. From there, approximately 15 pre-selected students will be transported by a school bus to the Hopewell Valley Central High School to be reunited with their parents. The remaining students will return to the Stony Brook School and resume their day.
It is anticipated that there will be a noticeable presence of emergency first responders in and around the Stony Brook Elementary School during this drill.
The high school will be placed in a temporary building freeze while the Stony Brook students are dropped off at the building. Once this is complete, the building freeze will be lifted and the high school students will be dismissed for the day.
This drill is meant to exercise our emergency plans for first responders and school personnel. An after action meeting will be held with first responders and school personnel to critique the drill. This will allow for discussion on issues on how to improve our collective emergency response to a serious incident.
We would like to thank the school district, our fellow first responders, our parent volunteers, and our school children for their participation and cooperation with this drill.
