One in five American adults experiences some form of mental illness in a given year. Living with a mental illness is a complex experience and every year people overcome the challenges of mental illness. Although there are similar diagnoses, treatments and stories, not every experience is identical.
On Thursday May 20th New Jersey NAMI will host presenters from our four multicultural groups, AACT-NOW, CAMHOP, NAMI NJ en Español and SAMHAJ. They will discuss how they have overcome cultural barriers, embraced their cultural identity while living with a mental illness, share their own mental health journey, and talk about how each of us as members of society can play a part in embracing perceptions and experiences of mental illness in different cultures.
