[ARCHIVED] September is National Preparedness Month #2

National Preparedness Month 2021. Picture of 3 generations preparing together

September is National Preparedness Month. This month we will be sending out regular posts about things you can do in your home to be prepared if an emergency or disaster occurs.

Step 2- Consider specific needs for your household.

As you prepare your plan, tailor it to your specific living needs and responsibilities. Discuss your basic requirements, and who is responsible for them. Think about how people can assist each other with communication, care of children, business, pets, or needs like operating medical equipment. Create a personal network for specific areas where you may need assistance. Consider these factors when developing your plan:

  • Different ages of members within your household
  • Responsibilities for assisting others
  • Locations frequented
  • Dietary needs
  • Medical needs including prescriptions and equipment
  • Disabilities or access and functional needs including devices and equipment
  • Languages spoken
  • Cultural and religious considerations
  • Pets or service animals
  • Households with school-aged children
