Committee Member Michael Ruger shares Hopewell Township's news for September. It's a BUSY month!
Transcript:
Hi. I’m Michael Ruger from the Hopewell Township Committee with some notes about Township events happening in September.
The Township Committee will meet on Monday, September 13 and Monday, September 27. The first meeting will be held over Zoom. We had planned to have the second meeting in person but in light of the spread of the Delta variant, we’ll talk about whether to do so at our September 13 meeting.
We have two significant issues on the agenda this month. We’ll hold the second reading of the ordinance to allow cannabis cultivation and processing in the Township on September 13. There will be a public hearing and we encourage anyone who is interested to participate. For additional information about the ordinance, please visit the Clerk’s page on the Township website, www.hopewelltwp.org.
You may have heard the recent announcement about the plans of BeiGene, a biotech company focused on cancer treatments, to acquire a 42 acre parcel on the former BMS campus. This is great news for the Township. In light of BeiGene’s investment, we plan to introduce a revised redevelopment plan on September 13, reflecting suggested enhancements from our Planning Board and members of the public. The second reading and public hearing will be on September 27.
There are some other upcoming events.
Hopewell Township is collecting donations for Afghan refugees during the first two weeks of September. Please drop off any donations at the Public Works Building between 7 AM and 3 PM weekdays.
The Recreation Department’s fall program and trip registration opens on September 1, and the new fall and winter program guide will be in the September edition of the Hopewell Express.
Schools reopen on Wednesday, September 8, so please keep that in mind when you are driving around the Township.
The annual Senior Picnic will be held on September 9 at Washington Crossing State Park.
This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania. The Hopewell Valley 9/11 memorial ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 11, at 11 AM in Woolsey Park. Lunch will be provided, and please bring your own chair.
Bulk waste pickup begins in Zone 1 on September 13. Please call Public Works at 609-537-0250 to arrange pickup.
Finally, we’ve all seen the spread of the Delta variant. The Township is doing all it can to keep employees safe, and the Hopewell Vally Regional School District is working to keep students, teachers, and staff safe as well. Please continue to do your part to keep yourself, your family, and your community safe.
Thanks for listening, both to me and to the Hopewell Township wildlife.
